Hello and welcome to the Linwood Project Community Chorus site! I am Libby McLaren, the director of this wonderful chorus. Beginning in the Fall of 2007, we will be starting our 11th year as a community chorus.

WHO WE ARE
The chorus began as an offshoot from Cazadero Family Camp, by chorus singers at camp who wanted a ‘year round’ choral experience. We are all women, with usually about 30-35 singers per session, ranging in age from 40-65, with a few younger and a few older as well.

REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN
We are a community chorus, and so there are no auditions. I ask that you make a commitment to the 10 week session you join, and that you are willing to learn the music and sing with an open heart. You will be given a cassette, each session, containing the music for your part for all of the songs we will sing in that session. Additionally, I highly encourage you to record every rehearsal, to help you remember the weekly details of the songs

THE MUSIC WE SING
We don’t claim any one style of music for our repertoire, instead, we sing a variety of styles. On our CD, recorded in March 2007, we sang 2 arrangements of Holly Near songs, a few ‘traditional’ choral works, a song in Macedonian, one in French, one in Irish, one in Hebrew, an original arrangement of a Beatles song, as well as jazz standards from the 40’s. Every 2-3 years we learn and perform a ‘Winter/Holiday’ show.

PERFORMANCES
Though the main objective of the chorus is to simply get together and learn new songs to sing together, we do perform occasionally. The chorus is on the roster of performers with the acclaimed ‘Bread and Roses’ organization. The performing we do both with Bread and Roses, as well as independently from them, is mostly at local and community convalescent homes. On occasion wefree local performance for ‘Family and Friends’. The years that we work on ‘winter and holiday music’, we also give a free performance in December for the community.

REHEARSALS
The chorus rehearses in blocks of 10 week sessions, of which there are 3 per year. We take off during the summer. During each of these 10 weeks, we rehearse on Sundays from 2:00-5:00pm, at the Salem Lutheran Home, located on 29th St. at 23rd Avenue, near the Glenview district in Oakland. Please see ‘directions’ to find your way to Salem.
